Two-prong outlets, fixed the right way.

Ungrounded two-prong outlets, and three-prong outlets with no ground behind them, often show up on home inspection reports and insurance questionnaires. There are code-compliant fixes, and they don’t always mean rewiring the house.

Why they get flagged

A ground gives fault current a safe path. Without one, there’s a higher shock risk with some appliances.

Two-prong outlets

Common in older homes. Fine for some uses, but there’s no ground for three-prong plugs.

Three-prong outlets with no ground

Three-prong outlets swapped in without a ground behind them. These look modern but aren’t, and inspectors check for them.

Cheater adapters

Adapters that let a three-prong plug into a two-prong outlet, which defeat the ground on the appliance.

Ungrounded outlet FAQ

No. Existing two-prong outlets aren’t illegal, but they’re often flagged by home inspectors and some insurers, and they can’t safely be swapped for three-prong outlets without a ground or GFCI protection.

Not without a ground or GFCI protection. A three-prong outlet with no ground looks fine but doesn’t give you the protection it suggests.

In many cases the code allows GFCI protection on ungrounded circuits, with the right labelling. It protects people from shock but doesn’t provide a ground for electronics, so it isn’t the best fix everywhere.

Not usually. We test first and fix circuit by circuit, so you only pay for what’s needed.
